Getting a feel for some of the townʼs iconic landmarks, comedian Damian Callinan is in Bairnsdale this week sizing up the local personalities and places for his latest social experiment: Town Folk. His first stop on a tour of regional Victoria, Damian will spend the week immersing himself in Bairnsdaleʼs culture, capturing local identities on camera and learning the history of the town for a unique, tailor- made performance celebrating our community at the Forge Theatre and Arts Hub on Friday. Damian has reunited with award winning filmmaker, John Cherry, for the one-of-a-kind production, featuring historic photographs, film segments, elections for Baron/Baroness of Bairnsdale, audience interaction, stand up and more.
Renowned for his storytelling, observational skills and ability to tailor comic material to any community, Damian will create a living, vibrant time capsule of Bairnsdale and its inhabitants. While he canʼt give too much away, Damian told the News some of the things he has planned include training with a local football club, picking the brains of local history gurus, learning from some of our youngest citizens, and bringing the townʼs most beloved landmarks into the 21st century. All this will culminate in the Friday night performance – an affair not to be missed. Tickets are available from the Forge Theatre and Arts Hub, online, or from the Bairnsdale and Lakes Entrance visitor information centres.
