East Gippsland Newspapers is the result of over 100 years of newspapers owned and published by the Yeates family in East Gippsland. Today’s Managing Director/Editor, R.D. (Bob) Yeates is the fourth generation of the family to be involved in the business. Many changes have taken place over the years since changing from hot metal production to a Macintosh based pre-press production area with the latest in computer to plate technology and digital imaging today.
East Gippsland Newspapers produces the Bairnsdale Advertiser, the East Gippsland News, the Snowy River Mail and the Lakes Post, together with the East Gippsland Visitor Guide, of which over 100,000 are distributed each year, and the Great Alpine Road Touring Guide. The East Gippsland News is distributed free to every home and business in Bairnsdale, Paynesville and Eagle Point and is inserted in the Lakes Post and distributed to Orbost.
James Yeates Printing and Design and James Yeates Publications are part of the same family company and produce commercial printing from simple flyers, business stationery and cards, to books and full color promotional brochures and, with the recent addition of digital photography and the purchase of a digital color plotter, are able to print posters 1.3 metres wide and unlimited in length.
The latest additions to the commercial printing department are color and black and white digital printing and copying machines, which cater for clients wanting fast turnaround, short run color or black and white printing up to A3 size and are also used to reproduce customer copies of color photographs printed in the newspapers.
